Experiences with Wattium systems
Here are some experiences with electricity from cottages in different parts of Finland.
Wattium is a ready and tested solution
Wattium is not a prototype or an experiment. It is the result of years of development and has been used in various cottage sites around Finland – even in demanding conditions.
The experiences below show what everyday life is like when electricity just works, without constant adjustment or worry.
Cottage in Pudasjärvi – kitchen like in town
- Location: Pudasjärvi, 17 km in the wilderness
- Use: Complete kitchen, dishwasher, hot water, Safire modern oil heater
- The system: Wattage with a slightly smaller battery, ando 8 years of use
- Result: electricity has always been available in all seasons

Urban electricity in the middle of nowhere – Wattium changed everything
Before Wattium: constant adjustment and uncertainty
Before the Wattium, the electrification of the cottage was a stressful issue that required constant attention. The Victro Multiplus 3000VA inverter often went into overload, and the old lead-acid batteries could never be relied upon – they had to be replaced three times in six years. The actual capacity of the batteries was obscure, and in the evenings it was almost routine to go out and start the big aggregate.
In the quiet wilderness, a gasoline-powered generator broke the mood. It kept running for hours, and while the electricity came, the price was noise, hassle and constant uncertainty.
Wattium surprised – this time positively
When Wattium was introduced, there were still surprises – but now they were all positive. Suddenly there was more power and reliability than ever before. This made it possible to equip the cottage like a permanent home.
A kitchen like in the city
The cottage got a completely new look:
-
Large fridge freezer
-
Micro, coffee maker, tea maker, toaster and capsule coffee maker
-
Induction hob, electric oven and dishwasher
-
Running hot water from the tap, thanks to the flow water heater
The dishwasher has been in use for six years – and no aggregate has been needed. The wattage is sufficient.
Intelligence, control and comfort
It works in the cottage too:
-
WiFi, security camera and Nexa remote controls
-
Mobile phone app can be used to control heating, aggregate and 230V voltage
-
Safire oil heater, quiet and odourless, keeps the whole cottage warm even in autumn – starts remotely
Easy to use – simple instructions
You do not need an engineering degree to use the equipment. Main principles:
-
Electronics and lights must be on at all times
-
Water pump and fridge running in the background
-
No other household appliances are used while the dishwasher is running
-
Up to two induction hotplates at a time
-
The oven is not used in combination with other high-efficiency appliances
The screen on your phone clearly shows you how much power you have, and what to look out for.
Even visitors wonder
Other families have also used the cottage – and no one has noticed the difference to a city kitchen. Everything just works.
Winter positions – one click is enough
In winter:
-
Put antifreeze in the dishwasher
-
Draining the water heater and pressure vessel
-
Closing the fridge
-
Wattium can be put into sleep mode or switched off completely
Still: Safire can be started remotely and the system can be woken up remotely when you return to the cottage.
Plenty of power in summer – a little aggregate in autumn
The dishwasher is the biggest electricity consumer. In the summer, energy is plentiful, but on dark autumn evenings, an aggregate is sometimes needed. Often, 1-2 hours of use in the evening is enough – that’s enough power for the whole next day.
Cottage life changed completely
Thanks to Wattium, the electricity system is no longer the centre of attention.
👉 Now you can focus on the essentials: heating the fireplace, taking a sauna, peaceful mornings and celebrating Midsummer with friends.
Ylitornio – only two panels can do it
- Location: in Ylitornio – on the banks of the Tornio River
- Use: Summers to winters, hunting, fishing. Pilot customer since the beginning.
- System: Victron MP 3000VA and lead-acid battery replaced with Wattium and aggregate
- The result: read below. See below.
Experiences in practice (Ylitornio)
Old system out – Wattium replaced in one night
We got the Wattium system for a trial run and the next evening we went to a cottage in Ylitorno. The installation went smoothly that evening – clear instructions and ready-made connectors made the job surprisingly straightforward.
Our old system, the Victron Energy Multiplus 3000, was decommissioned. It was replaced by a complete solution that changed the entire ease of cottage life.
Light, power and confidence – without playing handball
We use many appliances: lights, sockets, TV, fridge, cooker hood, extractor fan, Safire heater and a borehole pump (Grundfos SQE2). The aggregate is a Timco 3000.
What was particularly interesting about the Wattium deployment was the remote start of the aggregator and the mobile phone app, which makes it easy to check the electricity situation in the cottage – wherever you are.
Coming to the cottage in winter made a big difference
We stay in the cottage from spring-winter (week 10), and in December the cottage is put into hibernation. Wattium has made this rhythm much more effortless.
In the past, the aggregate was stored in the sauna. When you arrived at the cottage, you first had to heat the sauna so that the aggregate could be taken out, connected and started. In the evening, it would be brought back inside so that the next morning would not start with problems.
With Wattium, these routines are a thing of the past.
Alone at the cottage – safety and comfort
I hunt a lot in autumn and early winter, and often go to the cottage alone with the dogs. In the past, I might leave the aggregate on all day if I went hunting. It would run as long as there was enough petrol in the tank.
Now I can check the situation from my mobile phone and turn on the aggregate or heater remotely – even in the middle of a hunt. The Safire oil heater also works with remote start, so you can turn it on the day before.
It’s a completely different feeling to come to a warm cabin than to a cold, dark space where the batteries have already been drained.
Water from 100 metres – without aggregate
Previously, the borehole pump was only powered by an aggregate – the batteries did not have enough power to draw water. The Wattium now does this too, effortlessly: from a depth of 100 metres, water is lifted without the need to do anything separately.
Less adjustment – more time to be
We are very satisfied with the ease of use and reliability of the system. Cottage life has become much easier and more relaxed – the power works, the heat comes on and the water rises without fuss.
More time for what matters most when you’re at the cottage: being at peace, doing chores and enjoying nature.

Savonlinna – enough electricity without an aggregate
- Location: in Savonlinna, by the lake
- Use: Three years of use, including teleworking, kitchen renovated
- System: ended up directly with Wattium, no aggregate, no need for one
- The result: ‘It’s nice to be installed, electricity when you need it. A neighbour put in a connection and pays monthly fees every month.”
Experiences in practice (Savonlinna)
What happens when you get modern, off-grid electricity for your cottage? Kimmo, a cottage owner from Savonlinna, tells us about his experience with Wattium, which not only brought electricity to his cottage, but also a new level of freedom, comfort and an extended cottage season.

“Wattium has been good overall – the experience is very positive”
– The Wattium equipment has worked brilliantly. Overall, the experience has been very positive,” Kimmo says happily.
He explains how electricity changed the way the cottage was used from the very first summer.
– With comfortable electricity, the cottage is in use from September until well into October. In the past, the cottage season ended much earlier.
Freedom without electricity network contracts
Kimmo says that he particularly enjoys the fact that the cottage is completely unplugged.
– Being off the grid is a great thing! It feels really nice to have electricity available when you need it – especially in the summer.
– And you don’t have to pay expensive monthly fees when you don’t even use electricity. A neighbour installed an electricity connection, and now he pays every month, even though he doesn’t even go to the cottage in winter. It saves us a lot of money.
Electricity brought new opportunities – and young people to the cottage
– When the cottage got electricity, it opened up a lot of new possibilities. For example, the kitchen was renovated. The old, faulty fridge was removed and replaced by an energy-efficient model that uses surprisingly little power.
– Young people have also become more interested in camping. Of course, the first visits, which include emptying the toilet, are still left to us parents,” Kimmo laughs.
Electricity for your smoker, coffee maker and laptop
Kimmo gives concrete examples of what electricity has been used for.
– Smoked fish with an electric smoker. It took 50Ah of power, but the battery still had plenty of power. Even the coffee was made in autumn, even though the sun is already starting to fade.
– You can even work remotely from your cottage. It’s a whole new dimension to camping.
Easy to set up: “Switch on and electricity works”
Kimmo is particularly pleased with how easy it was to set up the device.
– Wattium was lifted into the yard shed. When the power switch was turned ON, the screen appeared directly on the mobile phone – and 230V electricity was immediately available.
The solar panels were installed on the edge of the plot, where the sun can shine all day. They had enough power to meet the electricity needs for the whole summer.
– It was interesting to monitor the production and sufficiency of electricity. No aggregate has been needed at all.
All set for the new season
– When the device was switched on again after the winter, the battery was still well charged. Now we’re looking forward to the next few days at the cottage, when everything will be ready,” Kimmo smiles.
On the shore of Lake Inari – year-round cottage
- Location: lake Inari, 2 hours by boat
- Use: All year round, coffee is brewed with a soot pot, otherwise electricity is needed
- System: first tried with Victron 5000VA system, ended up with Wattium
- Result: reliable electricity even in winter, customer wants to help with marketing. Lake Inari whitefish were caught.
Experiences in practice (Inari) - coming soon
We will add and complete customer reports during the spring. Kuusamo, Posio, Inari…
